What’s next

Where Spotorama is going, and the one promise underneath all of it.

The rule everything here has to obey

Spotorama has no account, no server and no sign-in, and it works in the middle of nowhere with no signal at all. That is the point of it, not a limitation waiting to be fixed — so nothing below asks you to make an account or requires the internet to work.

These are directions, not dates. Everything here is an idea being worked on rather than a feature that has shipped.

Designed for, not built yet

Playing across several phones

One phone works well for one car. Two cars travelling together, or a back seat that would rather use their own phone, is a different game — everyone spots on their own device and the scoreboards stay in step.

This is the one that has been planned for from the very beginning: the app was built from day one with the seam in the right place, so phones can talk directly to each other over the local connection rather than through anybody’s server. Still no account, still nothing that needs a signal.

Idea

Records that carry between trips

Every trip you play is already kept, with the full scoreboard. The obvious next step is to let those trips talk to each other: who has the best run of yellow cars, longest winning streak, most road trains in a single drive, the family record for a Sunday afternoon.

Personal and family bests, built from the trips already on your phone — not a global table of strangers.

Idea

Remembering where you spotted things

A spot is more interesting with a place attached to it. Tagging each one with where it happened turns your history into a map of everywhere you have driven — the stretch of highway that is always good for tractors, the town where somebody once found three camper vans in a row.

If this arrives it will be optional and switched off until you ask for it, and the places will stay on your phone with everything else.

Got a better idea?

Most of what is worth building comes from people who actually play it on a long drive. If your family plays a version of this that the app cannot do yet, tell me: spotorama.app@gmail.com.
